What to Expect During a Home Remodel: A Week-by-Week Timeline

By Sonoma Enterprises – Remodeling Experts on the Treasure Coast

Planning a remodel can feel overwhelming. One of the first questions homeowners ask us is:

“How long will this take, and what happens each week?”

At Sonoma Enterprises, we believe in full transparency. That’s why we build and follow detailed timelines — so you always know what’s happening next.

Here’s a realistic week-by-week guide to what you can expect during a full home remodel — including flooring, kitchen, bathrooms, and trim work.

Week 1: Demo + Prep Work

  • Full demo of flooring, kitchen cabinets, and bathrooms

  • Popcorn ceiling removal

  • Begin ceiling refinishing with sprayed knockdown texture

  • Prep surfaces for flooring install

What to expect: It’s loud, messy, and essential. We keep it as tight and clean as possible.

Week 2: Floor Tile + Shower Prep

  • Install porcelain plank flooring (typically 9x48 throughout)

  • Begin master shower prep: hang cement board, waterproof, build curb, install PVC liner

  • Coordinate tile layout for entire home

Why it matters: Getting floors in before cabinets ensures clean lines and no awkward cuts later.

Week 3: Kitchen Cabinet Install + Tile Showers

  • Install kitchen cabinets (uppers and base)

  • Tile shower walls in the master and guest bathrooms

  • Begin prepping backsplash area

Pro Tip: Cabinets sit perfectly atop tile — better aesthetics and longevity.

Week 4: Countertops + Trim

  • Install kitchen countertops (quartz, marble, or granite)

  • Begin installing baseboards and door trim

  • Final tile work on shower floors or accent walls

Timing Note: Backsplash tile starts after countertops are set for precise alignment.

Week 5: Backsplash + Final Details

  • Install kitchen backsplash

  • Finish carpentry touches: window trim, door casings, closet detail

  • Begin punch list of touch-ups

Week 6–7: Final Paint + Fixtures

  • Final painting throughout

  • Install bathroom vanities, mirrors, lights, and plumbing fixtures

  • Clean all surfaces and prep for turnover

Week 8: Walkthrough + Handover

  • Final punch list review

  • Deep clean of all remodeled areas

  • Turnover day — your fresh, new space is ready!
